SEC 6010 Summer Block I Term Paper Guidance

Please ensure your term paper meets the following requirements:

Does the paper examine the impact of a disaster or threat (natural, technological, or man-made) on a specific company, business sector, government entity, or non-governmental/non-profit
organization?

Is the paper written in a consistent 12 point font, double spaced?

Is the paper between 1200-2000 words (8 double spaced pages, exclusive of cover page, abstract and key words page, reference page, and index and appendix pages if applicable)?

Does the paper conform to the American Psychological Association (APA) layout, style and citation format?

Does the paper include the following required sections?

A Cover page with the paper’s name and topic, your name, and course name (SEC 6010, Planning for Information Security)

An Abstract page, or single paragraph executive summary briefly outlining the scope of the paper and key findings and conclusions?

A listing of three to four Key Words or concepts that the paper addresses.

A Main section that provides background on the specific company, business sector, government entity, or NGO/non-profit organization under examination; detailed description of the threat or disaster under examination; discussion of the impact the threat or disaster had on the affected entity; and analysis of the entity’s response and recovery actions.

A Conclusion section that discusses any lessons learned from the threat or disaster and the entity’s response to and recovery from it.

A properly formatted References section.

Does the paper include at least one citation from each of the following sources?

A scientific or academic journal.
A professional/technical journal or trade publication.
A newspaper, magazine, on-line publication or blog, TED Talk etc.
A text book.

Have you used primary sources (i.e., original articles, studies, papers, laws, regulations, policies, etc.) as opposed to citing secondary sources (i.e. blogs, news aggregators, advocacy oriented sites, etc.) ?


Have you prepared an accompanying power point presentation (5-7 individual slides) to support your verbal presentation?

Does your power point presentation include relevant  visuals or graphics that help explain your subject?

Have you listed key concepts in short sentences rather than copying lengthy passages from your paper?
