Introduction
I will prepare a presentation on how to invest about £10,000 in equities or bond of Tesco and Sainburry. In this report I will look at how I can maximize the returns of my investment within a month or should I invest in similar bonds within United Kingdom.

Profile of the Companies

Tesco,

This is the largest retailer of food in Britain and third largest globally which commenced in 1914 in the markets of East End found in London. Here, Jack Cohen started selling groceries. As a brand name, Tesco firs emerged on tea packets during the 1920s.  The year 1929 witnessed the establishment of Tesco’s first store in Burnt Oak, Edgeware (TESCO, 2016).

J Sainsbury plc

This is a multinational corporation which operates the second largest chain of supermarkets in United Kingdom commanding about 16.9% of the market share. Sainbury’s was started in 1869 by John James Sainbury. Its headquarter is at Holdorn, London. It is a public limited Company listed in London Stock Exchange (Financial Times, 2016B).

Findings

Share Price movement for Tesco Plc and J Sainsbury plc (SBRY.L).
For the last one month the share price movement is illustrated by both the table and graph below.

Figure 1: Share price movement for the two companies. Source: Respective websites
From figure 1 above, it can be noted that the share price was not that much volatile with short decline around mid of June and three days after the UK’s referendum to leave EU. This is because the referendum caused uncertainty in the market in which the investors speculated that both the Tesco and Sainsbury’s plc operations could be affected negatively. Any negative market information is likely to make investors to keep off from investing in the listed companies which I believe is case of the UK’s economy following the referendum to leave EU.

The economic climate in which these companies operate is prone to changes. Political and economic environment changes will affect the performances of the two companies. Investing in these shares faces the risks of negative changes in operating environment. Investing in bond is better because shares gave negative return for last month.

Conclusion

Based on this analysis, it can be noted that the S Sainsbury Plc has been paying dividends and has higher profitability than Tesco Plc. On their two companies’ shares for the last month, S Sainsbury Plc has performed better than its competitor. I will choose to invest in S Sainsbury Plc for both short term and long term investments. This is because S Sainsbury Plc has been paying dividends than the Tesco Plc.
